Adventure & Relaxation
At weekends two popular destinations are Tanga and Lushoto, both offering a change of pace and scene. Tanga is full of history as a major trading port and a focus for the slave trade in the 1800's. It is relatively unspoiled by tourism and a great place to get away to relax, swim, top up the tan, check your emails, and enjoy the shores of the Indian Ocean under an equatorial sun.

Lushoto is a few hours away and a very laid back town nestling amongst fertile hills. An easy place to meet other travellers, go hiking and spend time at the old colonial 'Lawns Hotel'.

Safaris

One of the must do's is a safari to one of Tanzania's world famous National Parks. Likely destinations for this safari are the Selous, the Serengeti, the Ngorogoro Crater, Tarangiri, Lake Manyara or the Arusha National Park. Whatever the choice, you can be sure of one of the most awesome experiences of your life. The Tanzania game parks are home to all the most well known wildlife species of Africa along with many more unexpected species of bird, mammal, reptile and insect.

There's more

Throughout your time in the Usambaras you will be able to get involved in the social life and culture of the local population. This means ceremonies, dances and local cultural activities. You can also spend time exploring the area around the villages on foot.

There are many more activities which you can also organise during your time in Africa such as:

  • Safaris to the Serengeti or the Ngorogoro Crater
  • Beaches and diving off Zanzibar
  • Masai Tribal Visits
  • Trekking and mountain climbing on Kilimanjaro or Mount Meru.
