Voluntary work with PoD is not all hard work. You will have plenty of opportunity to get out to play as well. On arrival in Cusco our staff will introduce you to all the places and people that you will need to know. Obviously this includes the best bars and restaurants, as well as internet cafes, tour operators, historical sites and the South American Explorer’s Club. Importantly, this introduction to Cusco will include advice on where not to go, and how to stay safe and healthy while living and working in Cusco.
Machu Picchu and the Sacred ValleyAs the ancient capital of the Inca Empire, Cusco is surrounded by some of the greatest archaeological sites in the world.
Machu Picchu, the Inca mountain top fortress, is one of the most impressive Inca ruins and its just a few hours from Cusco. The Sacred Valley of the Incas is also very close, and we can make sure you get the best of it, absorbing the history of this incredible place and its people. Our staff can organise these trips for you, or you can use their advice and ‘do it yourself’.
The Amazon JungleAbout half of Peru is the Amazon Basin. The two main access points are Puerto Maldonado and Madre de Dios. Both are accessible by plane from Cusco. You can book tours in Cusco to some of the most incredible wildlife and plant life locations on the planet.
The Manu biosphere is perhaps the best known, and is one of the largest nature reserves in the world. It is an amazing place and a unique experience.
Trekking in the AndesYou can’t visit Peru without spending time on foot in the high Andes! You can use our partners in Cusco for advice, arrange a trek yourself or use an operator in Cusco to organise a trek for you. The Andes are very accessible for trekking and it is easy to hire a guide and a donkey on one of the more popular trekking routes, or of course you can book yourself onto an organised trek along the Inca Trail for example. Many people head over to Huaraz for a trek and again this is very simple to arrange yourself or use a trekking company.
White Water RaftingCusco is well sited for some exciting white water rafting, and importantly it is well served with several very experienced and safe rafting companies. | | |
